Every 90 Days, Replace 10% of Your Wardrobe

Ultimately, your product is yourself, and it's very important that you continue to invest in the appearance (as well as the content) of that product. "The practice of programmatic replacement and upgrading of your wardrobe is an instant self-esteem booster, and an important way of investing in your appearance, which is a form of investing in yourself," sites The Excellent Investment Advisor.

"Every 90 days, lay out your entire business wardrobe. Take the tiredest looking 10%--suits, dresses, shirts, shoes, whatever's most clearly not up to par-and give it away. Then go out and replace it with something slightly better than the best stuff you now have," according to The Excellent Investment Advisor. If the most tired looking item in your wardrobe is a very old suit, you have to replace it with a suit that costs more-even if it's only a little bit more -than the cost of your very best suit. The key is to replace it with something better than the best items you now have.

Thus, every 90 days, you begin wearing something that is not only the best thing of its kind that you own, but that may be the best thing of its kind you've ever owned. And, since this is a slow, rolling upgrade of your wardrobe, you never really have to spend all that much money at one time.

This may well be the easiest single approach to improving your self-esteem and maintaining a sharp professional edge. The confidence that comes to a successful individual who pays attention to his wardrobe far exceeds the minimal investment required to programmatically maintain and build a wardrobe.

As your custom clothier we can schedule and assist you with your wardrobe review or you might make a game out of this; share the experience of laying out your wardrobe with your family or a significant other, to bring a fresh eye to the culling process. It's terrific fun, and it's another way of involving the people you care about in your career. And best of all, just three months from now, you get to do it again.

Q & A

Question
It seems that nearly everyone in my office is wearing three-button suits. I like the look of my two-button suits. Am I out of style wearing them?

Answer
By no means are you out of style by wearing two- button suits. A large percentage of our clients prefer the lower closure of a two-button jacket. Shorter, or more stocky-built men actually look slimmer and trimmer with the longer lapel lines. Many clients, who could wear a three-button nicely, simply prefer the deeper opening of the two-button jacket. Both are certainly acceptable today.
