HARVEST OF COLOR

The English look is again in great popularity. In fact, it has never really left the scene of classic, traditional tailoring. But this time around its traditional patterns are being done in not-so-traditional colors

Ripe for the picking this season are traditionally styled suits and jackets in shades of sienna, umber and pumpkin. Color ways are rendered in a soft autumnal palette or in bolder graphic black-and-white spiked with primary colors. City-wear styles like pin stripes and glen plaids are being woven in country-house colors for a delightful change of pace.

While the designs are traditional the texture isn't. Classic patterns like glen plaids are appearing with brushed faces, new washed finishes and embossed patterns. You'll even see these classics updated with fuzzy fibers more like your favorite sweaters.

Q & A

Question
I'm often accused of being boring in my choice of always wearing black dress shoes with my suits. Is a brown shoe appropriate with my suits?

Answer
It's time to step out in style and try something a bit different. Brown shoes are certainly my favorite. They are a perfect color choice for grey, blue, navy or all the olive and brown shades of suits and trousers. The world's finest shoemakers would agree. The natural colors-burgundy, tan, chili, or rich mid-brown tones bring out the best in the grain of fine leathers much better than black ever will. A brown shoe is elegant and sophisticated when worn with a navy or charcoal suit. A black suit demands a black shoe. Keep in mind that your belt should be a complimentary, though not necessarily identical, color of brown to match your shoes.
